Nonprofit Spotlight: Stewart's Caring Place
A cancer diagnosis often has ripple effects across an entire family. Local nonprofit Stewart's Caring Place keeps family members, loved ones and caregivers in mind when facing this challenge. Its free services range from support groups and counseling to yoga and fitness, a wig room, legal assistance and a food pantry, among other offerings.
"We understand that a cancer diagnosis affects not only the patient but also their caregivers, spouses, children, siblings, friends, and beyond. That's why our services are designed to provide comprehensive support to everyone impacted by cancer, regardless of age, stage, or phase of the journey," said Sarah Vojtek, CEO of Stewart's Caring Place.
Funding from ACF has helped support programs at Stewart's like a community ambassadors outreach program, which helps expand awareness of its services to marginalized communities. "It's an honor to see the journey of someone who arrives unsure and apprehensive, and then witness them leave with a sense of relief and gratitude on their faces," added Vojtek. "Knowing that we've been able to provide support, comfort, and a sense of hope to those facing the challenges of cancer fuels my passion. Every day, I am inspired by the resilience and strength of our community, and I am honored to be part of a team that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of others."
There are several ways to support the organization, from volunteering to financial support. "Community members and donors play a vital role in fulfilling our mission at Stewart's Caring Place," said Vojtek. "With all our programs and services offered free of charge, we rely solely on the generosity of the community. Since we don't bill insurance or receive government funding, partnerships with foundations, individuals, and corporations are crucial."
