Your Voice Matters
On the Table Greater Akron is a community-wide initiative where thousands of diverse residents from all walks of life gather to share a meal and discuss meaningful ideas to strengthen our community. It's an opportunity to make our region a strong, vibrant, safe and dynamic place to live and work.
Started by the Chicago Community Trust in 2014, On the Table embraces the idea that small conversations can generate big ideas – ideas that ultimately help shape the future of a region. In 2017, Akron was selected as one of 10 cities across the United States to host the event with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Led by Akron Community Foundation, the initiative brought thousands of residents together from 2017 to 2023 to discuss pressing community issues.
Plans for future On the Table Greater initiatives are being discussed, but residents are encouraged to continue holding their own discussions with family, friends and colleagues.
Results & Impact
Thousands of community members have participated in surveys following their On the Table Greater Akron conversations, giving us valuable insight into our communities, what you care about, and what you learned. The insights Akron Community Foundation has been able to glean from these surveys has been instrumental in guiding our grantmaking and keeping a pulse on the issues and opportunities in our community.
